Goose Rock

Yesterday my  daughter-in-law to be and I paddled out to Goose Rock from our little Stella-by-the-sea, where I suspected we might find a good amount of sea glass before the summer crowds rolled in.  Goose Rock  is a very very small island made up of – just rock  – located at the mouth of our cove in Long Island Sound, part of the Atlantic.   With the wind against us it took us about a half hour to paddle out, coming back around 20 minutes as the tide was coming in at the same time.  Good timing!   One must paddle out there at low tide and when the water is calm in order for the beach part of The Rock to be exposed.

We scored big on Goose Rock yesterday!

…. and rewarded ourselves and the husband with burgers on the grill and these.   I’m not much of a drinker, and definitely not a beer drinker.  But a Corona with a Lime slice hit the spot after a solid paddle workout on a calm sea.

I was going to write about all the unrest you definitely have been observing yourself, but the posts have been heavy lately and I think the world needs more “sea glass adventures” in general.  Wishing you the same in whatever form that takes.

Thank you for stopping in, for leaving your thoughts, for being a decent human in this world.  It all matters.

  1. Thank you. I needed a sea glass day today (but instead have had a wield a paintbrush day!) I think I need to go somewhere in the car today – we are only “allowed” to go 5 miles here in Wales, but I need to feel I can escape (I am vulnerable healthwise so have to shield) and look at a distant view of the mountains. Because of the pollen I haven’t been able to go out for our usual walks, and I miss nature (though we do live rurally so I shouldn’t complain). With your little trip to the island, I felt I’d gotten out of the house for some sea air.

I hope your trip brought you to a good clear place in your head. The world is such a troubled place right now.

    1. Oh, if my little space here brings someone some comfort or joy, it is indeed a very good day 🙂 Stay well, and thank you for the kind words. I just got a text from M, ( the future DIL) and she said… yesterday was so much fun. It truly was refreshing. And simple. And free! LOL…

  2. That sounds like the most perfect day! I have never found sea glass in all of my beach excursions.

    1. OH Penny… what??? I say put that on your bucket list. It is not the well worn beaches.. it’s the rocky shores, the remote beaches, the ones that see storm waves that have the most. I hope you find at least a few pieces at some point. It’s a real joy, a simple find like that!

  3. Here’s to sea glass and the mermaids that guide it to our beaches and those land lubbers who find it and fill jars with their treasure.
Remember: “Always be yourself, unless you can be a mermaid. Then always be a mermaid.”
Those people bravely caring for the victims of covid, those many and varied people marching in our streets for racial justice, they are us. We are rising bravely and peaceable and we will be heard as we seek a better world.
And we, they, were all mermaids and mermen in a former life, no doubt, with sea glass in our hair.
