Ambrosia

I may do a lot of communicating my views on social media, but I don’t often get too personal regarding whatever my life struggles. Believe it or not, I usually view that as a weakness and I’m not a cryer. This morning I woke with a song in my head and then tears in my eyes, and neither is a normal occurrence. With my hearing loss I lost music as well as language identification.  The the biggest tragedy for me with this handicap? – no music. But the song is an oldie and because of my love for music and my participation in bands in my younger years I remember every inflection, every cymbal, every trill, every beat, every note of most of the songs we all loved in our youth. So this song this morning – Ambrosia – You’re the Only Woman. I wondered why it’s making me tear up now, what heart string is it strumming so deeply that it’s bringing me to tears … and then I realize what this release is and how those words apply …and now I can’t stop the flood.

I am so horrified and heartbroken at all this hate I’m seeing on the news, on social media, even from some of the people I know well – our country is in real turmoil and it’s coming from all angles and all walks of life. I might some day go for that operation that could restore some hearing and perhaps some music in my life… ..and I hope and pray every single day this world finds it’s way back together in some form of peace we can all live with.  As with that operation , the fix might be painful and there are some risks, results not guaranteed, might have to step out of our comfort zone, but isn’t it worth it? Aren’t we worth it? How comfortable is what we have right now for any of us??

This is a beautiful world we live in and I  see it more acutely now that I can no longer hear it. I want to take every one of you in my arms and heal these wounds for all. I’ll pray that we all wake up and smell the coffee, see the value in loving and respecting each other and truly hear the music, inside ourselves and outside in the world … despite our differences. We are so lucky to live here, we should all love this place with all it’s flaws, and fix them. I just want us all to realize that, and to find the path that leads us to loving and respecting each other for whatever time we each have here on this earth..

When the pain of love surrounds you
And the world may be unkind
I’ll put my lovin’ arms around you
Take you far from this place and time

Because you and I been in love too long
To worry ’bout tomorrow
Here’s a place where we both belong….……………………..

  1. Music would be tragic to lose; you have my sympathy. I agree with you on the hate, but people seem to hate down. They are angered by people they perceive as cutting the line, which implies that they feel superior. (See the book by Arlie Russell Hochschild.) But the “line” is like at the supermarket, where one cash register goes faster and another goes achingly slow and it can feel unfair to be behind somebody who, after waiting in line for half an hour, acts surprised that it’s time to pay and has no idea where their checkbook and driver’s license is, and meanwhile you see people at the next cashier who got in that line 15 minutes later than you who are already walking out with their purchases. People rarely hate up, at the people who caused the lines, who are gouging prices and taking advantage of them. Maybe it’s because those people seem untouchable? Or because people would love to join them?

  2. I wish you could once again hear the music, Karen. It’s terrible that you can’t. 🙁

As you probably know, I’m not as ‘versed’ in politics as those of you who are. I know enough though that it appears hate has almost become the new normal for some people. I certainly don’t want to live in a bubble, but I also don’t blame one person for the hatred that is becoming an every day affair. While it’s in my persona to try and make people laugh, to smile at people I come across, and remember my manners I was taught long ago it’s hurtful how our world as we knew is falling apart. I would say little by little but that’s not true anymore. It’s hour by hour. I believe the social media, like twitter, that our POTUS seems to love and spew unkindness makes me wonder how it would have been if the previous president’s had it and used it; would we have seen their ‘true selves’ as we apparently do now. And then there’s the media who seem to dwell on the ‘sensational’ . Very seldom do we get the ‘real’ news anymore. Yes, I voted as you know, on who is known as the orange scream. Am I sorry? Most likely but as I’ve said before, without knowing what we do now, the other candidate IMO is not someone I admire and truly believe is evil.

Ok, I’m done now, and I doubt anyone would understand what I’ve said. I’m sorry for the space I’ve taken here. Believe me thought, this is the most I’ve spoken on our world today. My prayers are for this country that the majority, I thought, truly loved which seems the majority now hate. God help us all.

  3. Hello,
My hubby has a hearing loss, he has worn hearing aides since he was a child. Loosing music would be hard, I am sorry you have the hearing loss. I could rant on about our POTUS, he does seem to like to rile up the hatred. He lacks the humanity I expect in a president. Wishing you a happy day and week ahead!

  4. I don’t normally comment on blogs but I am compelled to now. As a WOC in my 60’s , who can trace my family roots back to 1737 I no long feel welcome in our country. I live in a rather upscale town in the north east where it is all to common to see people of all ages wearing MAGA hats and giving me the stink eye in some of the boutiques on our Main Street (not from the shop owners!) It is frightening to hear such hatred from the POTUS, the bullying, and name calling makes many people think its okay to berate and hate people based on stereotypes. Thank you for letting me vent a little. Please know I so appreciate your voicing your opinions so eloqently.
    Love AMBROSIA!!

    1. Peg, thank you for reaching out here – I hear you, it’s truly frightening, and thank you for the kind words. I love Ambrosia too!!

  5. omgosh – that song! I had that same song in my head a few months ago. It’s so sweet and wonderful.

Karen – I’m sorry for your hearing. I’m giving a hug.

I saw an ad on youtube today from the NRA and I was shocked at the narrative invoked on it! Horrible. It actually frightened me.

I want nothing more than to go back to the days I thought were untenable. They were easy-peasy in hindsight.
