Back in the Saddle

I will admit right here that I am a fair weather rider.  We pretty much took the winter off, Opie and I.  He wasn’t complaining.  The weather has taken a turn for the better, however. Even the may flies are out!  Yesterday I clean him up, tacked up and went for a ride in the fields and forest.  It was a beautiful thing.  One of the things I love about my little horse is.. he doesn’t need to be lunged or “worked down” before I get on him, even if it’s been months.  He’s a steady guy and just the right size at 15 hands.   He’s not a plug either, you definitely know you have a horse in your hands.

It’s a new day, all –
you know the drill  🙂

  1. I'll bet your butt and thighs are screaming this morning. Taking the winter off, then getting out for a ride is a great way to wake up those lazy winter muscles.

  2. Riding makes me feel so alive. My allergies are ruining some of my riding opportunities, but I ride year round so I have to tell myself that a few days really doesn't matter.

  3. How fun to finally get out and ride! Are you sore today? I remember once I went horseback riding and when I slid off I went straight to the ground. My legs couldn't hold me up. It was hilarious.

  4. I do believe your horse was smiling in that last picture, so he liked it as much as you.
And whats that big cookie cutter looking thingy in your bucket of brushes?
Note to self: Google "lunged" and "worked down."

  5. Your grooming box and brushes are so clean! I would be totally embarrassed to post a photo of mine right now :~

  6. Oh My Goodness, I don't' get envious very often, but right now looking at your amazing horse photo shots make me Envious with a big e…..I have always, always wanted my own horse and it's just never worked out , Yet anyway.
so happy that you had such a great day.
    peace n abundance,
