Well, I’ll tell ya – there are so many options out there…. and so many people who have put a lot of thought and design and aesthetics into their chicken coops. After much research and listening to other peoples’ trial and error… I have decided on a coop design. It’s more utilitarian than I had first envisioned, but I’ll jazz it up with vintage fresh eggs signs, etc.
These are some examples of other fine coop craftsmanship ….
This one below was designed and built by Heather Bullard and her husband
– just beautiful!..her blog is too…
This is the one I went with …
I think it will suit our hens purposes well
and appears easy to clean.
I found it on the same site I ordered the chicks from…
We will build a large rectangular yard around it… frame and wire mesh with roof.
Aren't people creative! Your's has a New England Salt Box look to it – I love it!
It's beautiful, Karen! They will be very happy!! xo
Oh Karen, you chose a beautiful flock and this coop looks like a playhouse. I hope you have a wonderful experience, just be patient and you will be well-rewarded for your efforts. There's nothing better than fresh eggs! You'll get excited when you crack open the ones that are double-yolkers!
stylish yet practical. I think the chickens will approve:)
It doesn't really look that much different than coop #2…my favorite:) Ease of cleaning I am sure is the most important of considerations!
Love your coop! I thought I was the only one going chicken crazy. It's nice to know that I am in good company. Enjoy your chicks.

It will be wonderful. I am so excited for you. I always wanted them but I live in a condo now and it would not be a good idea!
Keep us posted.

From one chick to another, I think they're going to be very happy! Great choice. ๐
Oh gosh, this header is awesome! You have a gift! My computer is getting slower by the day, so it takes a while to load.
Have fun.
Very nice choice, Karen. I hope you enjoy it. ๐
Wow- Those are some hen houses…Love them…but you know the one you picked is kind of the "real thing". Can't wait til you get those chicks! Hugs- Diana Oh yeah…Your header? GORGEOUS!!!
Love your choice. One question (I can't figure it out from the web site)…what is the boxy bulge at the bottom? Looks like it's hinged…is that over the nesting boxes?
I cannot wait to get the scoop on how your coop turns out! I love your project and it's so much fun to see the progression. Please. please take a photo of the box, the packaging and how live chicks can be MAILED and arrive alive at their destination! This will be just a good as Christmas!
Gorgeous coops!
Go for it with the little peepers! We do it every year and it's quite rewarding. I'll be looking to see how it all goes.
Gorgeous blog you have here! I love your pictures and your home! Have a wonderful day!!~

Just saw Kim's post on your blog. First of all, your blog is wonderful, but your home is fantastic. I love your kitchen, love your home. You're getting chickens? I'm in the process of doing the same. Have always had chickens of the porcelain kind in my kitchen and am now going to get three chicks. Still researching the coops. Speaking of coops, the most incredible coop is at "Thefancyfarmgirl.com. OMG, you will die! I'm your newest follower, hope you visit and do the same! ~Delores
