Fall rolls in

The light has changed, a golden slant, earlier in the evening now.    Woodburning smoke curls through the air and in through open windows.  Heavenly, the scent   Leaves crunch under foot as I make my way to the barn  and coop for early morning feeding.   Sleep comes easier on these cool early autumn nights.   The Mr. insists on an open window as I heap on another blanket.     The stew and soup recipes come to the top of the pile and maple cream cookies fill the jar.    We have yet to stack wood outside the kitchen door but I eagerly await the first fire in the fireplace.    Fall has indeed come to This Old House.    How does the season announce itself in your neck o’the woods?

Anniversary flowers!

  1. You have such a beautiful home and I love the added touches of Fall. The big wagon is perfect for decorating. We haven't seen any changes here in Florida…except for the shorter days. But we are planning a trip to see a bit of Fall soon! Hugs!

  2. What says Fall to me…the smell of the autumn leaves, the wood burning scent in the air and my pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting that my Mom makes for me every September for my birthday!

    What gorgeous Anniversary flowers!

  3. I am so glad to see the leaves changing in your neck of the woods. Since we will be in Conn. next for a couple of days. Looks like rain coming though. I wish it would go somewhere else. Love your mantel and always love seeing that wagon in your yard.

  4. I love your fall touches. Every day the leaves get deeper shades of oranges, reds, and yellows. We have to enjoy them fast because within a week if we get a strong wind or heavy rain they will disappear.

  5. Your fall touches inside and out are just perfect, Karen. Very festive yet subtle. I feel the same way as you, I made vegetable soup and bread for dinner tonight, there's just something in the air that makes me crave a warm home cooked meal. Sleeping in this weather is heavenly, only it's me that wants the windows open and the hubs that freezes! 🙂

  6. The pups' hair grows thicker, another blanket on the bed,, chili in the crockpot, and my husband actually wears pajamas to bed. Sure signs that autumn is here.

  7. Your house is beautiful year round, but most especially during autumn. You know I love that buckboard! Fall announces itself with freshly cut fields and black walnuts dropping off the trees.

  8. I love that the A/C is off, the horses are enjoying the chilly mornings and aren't dripping with sweat each afternoon!
Our trees have just a tinge of a hint of whats to come. It is supposed to be one of the most gorgeous Autumns here in east Tn. in many years. The perfect mix of sun and rain over the summer!
I just love your pumpkins in the wagon and above the front door. So sweet!
    xo, misha
p.s. is the candy apple still there??

  9. Such beauty to behold; inside, outside, everywhere!

I love that you share with us, Karen. You have a gift for decorating among many other traits.

    No fall here yet!

  10. Love how you're decorating for the season; around here, I hope to finish the tractor work before hard frost sets in.
I did hang an autumnal wreath at the driveway gate, that counts…right?

  11. The old house looks great. Fall at my house….leaves leaves leaves. That what happens when you keep as many trees as possible close to the house when it's built.

    Sweatshirts.

Deer in the backyard eating the acorns.
    Halloween night….the night I make sure I'm not home. I know…I'm awful.
