Hay & Horseshoes

First cut hay in the pastures yesterday – baling after a few sunny days…

..and I finally finished that sidehall horse shoe project…
Old beam, old horse shoes, and some of my beaded horse shoes too..

  1. Achooooey. I love the smell of fresh mown hay but oh the sneezing and the eye watering and itching it besieges me with. Lawdy! I grew up with those smells in the midwest.

Horseshoes? My my. They do look nice there in your hallway and the turquoise one with the bird totally blows my skirt up! You do nice work.

  2. Too bad I am married to a blacksmith and not a ferrier. Those horsehsoes are adorable!

I hope our tractors don't ruin our friendships. We are red you are green!

  3. I am so going to copy that beam thing with horse shoes for my welcome sign for the new house!! A funny story on gathering hay…one year Larry and I were in Idaho and this automatic hay baler was making these HUGE round bales of hay and spitting them out…Larry and I must have watched that for an hour..lol…doesn't take much to entertain us!

  4. I love the smell of fresh cut hay! I hope the first cutting goes well.

I love your horseshoes! What a creative idea, especially with the jewels on them. Nice work!

I've been having trouble leaving comments for over a week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can do it today…

    Have a great day!

  5. Love the old horseshoes on the wall. My husband welded some of ours into a wreath for me.

We'll probably get up hay in about 3 weeks. It's usually around my birthday.

  6. I'll bet the hay smelled wonderful! I love that smell! What a beautiful horseshoe project! I love it! I might try making one for one of my girlfriends – she'd love it! I love the nice finishing feminine touches on it!

  7. I LOVE the beaded horseshoes. What a clever gal you are! And, I have to say that there is nothing I love better on a summer day than the smell of hay as it is being worked in the fields. It transports me back instantly to my home in PA and the days of riding the tractor with my father. Great post! Hugs- Diana

  9. Wonder if anyone has trespassed to mow my hayfield. I'm sure it needs it. Love the old beam and horseshoes!

  10. I just love hay time. My Dad just put up about 800 bales and still has more to go. I've got to get mine put up very soon. We've finally got a good dry spell. I LOVE the smell of fresh hay and so do my horses!! Debi

  11. Love that piece in your hall!!! There is just something about old rusty horse shoes and I adore your blinged out ones!!!

I love the smell of fresh cut hay. I use to ride the tractor with my Daddy when he would cut hay. When I got older, he let me rake it sometimes and when I could drive the truck, I always brought him lunch. We had so many great conversations riding that tractor! Brings back so many memories!

  12. I love the smell of freshly mown hay:)

How creative you are! Love the horseshoe wall decoration…especially the beaded ones. Is it true that it is considered bad luck to hang a horseshoe with the open part down?

  13. Nobody does horseshoes like you do Karen!!! Love the bling!!! I can't for the life of me figure out how you have the time to do everything you do! Magic??

  14. You know they say that imitation is the highest form of flattery! SOooooo, I hope you won't mind if I "steal" your idea! It looks fabulous! I'd forgotten about your beaded horseshoes–gotta show my daughter tomorrow!

    Have a great weekend, Karen!
