If I ever win the lottery…

… I will buy a second home on Martha’s Vineyard among the lovely Campground Cottages in Oak Bluffs.  If you’ve never been, oooh, you’re missing something special.

Here I sit with a 90 year old resident who’s family has been
summering in this charming cottage since the late 1800’s.
For the history of the cottages,

I often browse the real estate ads, searching for that absolutely affordable
cottage that I might renovate some day.
A girl can dream.
My friend Joan, who shares my love for the Vineyard so much that her
entire blog is devoted to it…
brought to my attention this cottage highlighted in Coastal Living…

I’m in love.
And what’s not to love about the Vineyard itself?
Well, maybe the crowds in summer..
but it’s a small price to pay for living in my kind of rustic oceanside paradise.
There is something nostalgic about the place too..
When I get off the ferry and breathe in that air..
it’s speaks of *home* to me.
Simple as that.

OK Joan.. for all your tough trivia questions and snippets, I have some for you.
What harbor is this above?
Where is this giant tree?

What restaurant are we sitting in here?…..
…and where can this statue be found?

What town are we in? ….
Can you name my favorite breakfast restaurant?
Hint:.. it’s right across from our favorite coffee house.
PS.. this was my blonde highlight poor hair decision making stage,
just hush.
What beach has these waves?
Where is this dock located?  There is a tiny clue, but I know you don’t need it.
This is the only photo I have that might stump you, Joan.
The view is a scene as you travel down one of the main artery roads from one town to the other.
Can you tell me what two towns this lies between?
Here’s one more view of the same area…
 Indeed.. what’s not to love.
Joan… I’ll see you in the comments section?
I’m guessing you’ll get every one right.

You did a great job and always do with my trivia questions.
    How'd I do ?

  3. WOW JOAN!!! You get an A plus!!… holy cow, you even got the TREE!!… And my favorite Diner for the Vermont Omelet. (spiced Apples, sausage and Cheddar) Both pictures were of the same road from Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven, there is no State Beach pic here.

    You amaze me!

  4. Oh how exciting, seeing the other coast! I have an idea, you come here and see my coast…and then I'll travel there and see yours:-) I would love to have a beach cottage. Just to wake up every morning, smell the salt air, and set out for a walk down the beach. That would be bliss.

  5. You know what's not to love! THE TRAFFIC!!!

But I am giving it another shot. My girlfriend owns one of those houses you love! And we are doing a girl's weekend there at the end of October this year! Very much looking forward to falling in love with your island off-season!

Actually, her gingerbread is not IN the camp, it is one street over on the Oak Bluff park. Can't wait.

BTW – I DO understand the "coming home" feeling. I get it in the Outer Banks and also in Block Island. Looking forward to feeling the love in MV. Will let you know!

  6. Beautiful pics! Yes, I could see you loving it there! Your son looks so little how old was he? You all look great! Hope you can visit there again this year 🙂

  7. I love these pictures, Karen. I'd love to go back to MV but we have so many place to see on our bucket list. And…I think your hair looks good with the highlights!

    XO,
    Jane

  8. Hi Karen, I'm a Karen too. I also live on Cape Cod and have gone to "The Vineyard" for years with my extended family members (who are all over the states). I would be happy to be your realestate agent when you win that money. Nest in Peace….Karen at acapecodnest

  9. Hi, Karen, I am Joan's daughter, Patty. I knew all the answers, but the one in Menemsha (I've only been there once) and your favorite place for breakfast (which Mom told me today is the Main Street Diner.) I was very proud of myself at six o'clock this morning – and on my husband's ipod to boot!

I am enjoying your blog. It's one of the few I look at each day.

    Have a lovely night,
    Patty

  10. When you get the "dream cottage", I'll stay behind, take care of the chickens, muck out the stalls, feed the horses, the dogs, the fish. Oh hell, never mind. I'll just go with you to the "cottage." 🙂

    I hope it comes true!!

    xoxo

  11. Yeah, but have you bought a lottery ticket? -lol- I've never been to Martha's Vineyard but it's on my "visit" list. In the meantime, I read Susan Branch's blog and dream. Dave and I would go to Cherry Grove and Surfside Beach at the northern and southern most ends of Myrtle Beach but not in the summer. smile

  12. Thank you Karen for your comment. I am so glad I came across your blog from "blog surfing" yesterday. You are on my "desktop" I enjoyed reading your past posts. Love…love….love your beautiful home. We just moved here on Cape Cod this past September….lots of plans…I will slowly share. Blessings to you and yours, Karen at acapecodnest
