Lesson for the day….

LESSON FOR THE DAY- when your husband says he will come to the grocery store with you and you’re thinking  – well sure, I mean…. I’ve always wondered whether he’d be useful or dead wood in a zombie apocalypse- JUST SAY NO. . And especially- don’t let him grab his own cart. 150 hot dogs and buns, bacon, garbage bags, pudding, meat and bread to feed an army later- we’re covered for the next three Fourth of Julys. 🙄

We’re all staying healthy and relatively sane here, and we hope that continues – Wishing the same for you as well –

  1. I went recently, my first time since life got weird. It was VERY strange. Only so many people in the store at a time. A few aisles nearly empty (pasta, rice). I was careful not to take more than two of anything. I think we’re set for 2-3 weeks.
I called our boulangerie yesterday to order bread. I wanted to buy a bunch of bread and croissants and freeze them, so as not to make extra trips–every trip feels like a huge risk of bringing germs home to my husband, who has cancer. I didn’t want to leave the bakery with a shortage, so I ordered ahead. I was just reading about Parisians going to their country homes and doing things like buying buying all the baguettes.
The toilet paper situation has to calm down. Some people have enough for a year! It’s not as if they’re going to just use more.

  2. Hello,

It is strange going to the store now, I have seen many empty shelves , not just the TP. We have been to 3 stores and have not found rice. I guess that means we shouldn’t be eating rice, lol. So far, we are good on the TP we already had. We are not panic buying. Wishing you a happy and healthy new week!

  3. I keep telling folks to check on line nearly everything can be found there and it has been less “touched ” than in stores. Every trip into a store increases your vulnerability. If I were stocked up to the gills I would not broadcast it. Years ago I had wonderful neighbors who just happened to be LDS. They were constantly telling me to make a storage cache in my yard like they did. One day I finally said- I don’t need to – in case of an apocalypse I know where four caches already are. lol

My dad always stockpiled. When he passed there was a pallet of TP in his garage. I think the TP is a male thing. They all seem to be obsessed with bathroom issues and love just sitting in there. ugh

  4. My husband took over grocery shopping…even though after all the joint replacements, I walk better than he does. But after me doing it for the first 30+ years..I said “have at it”! He liked doing it too!

But, it appears he has given the job back to me…wussie. lol. I can understand, he has had his share of medical issues, open heart at 52, diabetes, a rare blood cancer, kidney disease, 2 back surgeries. All that and at 73 he is the youngest of all his siblings ranging in age from 91 to 82. They are all pretty healthy, and moving around well…except for his 88 year old sister who died last month. Natural causes and I think she pretty much just got tired out and gave up.

So now I run into Aldis and grab all of their awesome produce and than I order online from another store and do a pick up although I heard that the people who do that service are going on strike tomorrow. They want safer working conditions and more money and they deserve it.

It gets interesting figuring out different meals with what we have here. And what is up with toilet paper? I am just glad that I keep a good stash, something I learned from growing up with 9 people using the same bathroom for many years! That empty roll that you have pictured? I saw that a bajillion times growing up! lol.

One thing that is driving me batty is the jackal in the White House…campaigning at the coronavirus up dates. On one hand, I don’t want to watch him because his voice sickens me and I hate that I am counted as one of the people who tune in and increase his viewing numbers, but on the other hand, I need to stay informed. Our governor, Andrew Cuomo, has done an outstanding job fighting back the jackal and the virus and I just hope Andy stays healthy. This country needs him. I know it may be unpopular to some, but I can see him dethroning the jackal come November. I am little worried about Joe’s gaffes.

These are strange times and strange things are happening.

Sure could use some pictures of Stella right about now, wink wink.

  5. Thanks for the giggles today. We need to laugh sometimes even when times are bad.

  6. I learned a long time ago to avoid shopping with DH at all costs. Our styles just don’t work well together in a grocery store (or other store for that matter). I’m happy to send him off with a list and stay home, or vice versa. Stay safe and healthy.
