Morning paddle up the Salmon River

Glorious end of summer morning paddle
up the Salmon Riverο»Ώ – approximately 10 miles long..
We thought surely we did atleast 8..
but after consulting maps when we returned home
we realized we probably only did about… three.
Maybe.
Absolutely perfect conditions for paddling… a light breeze,
the sun’s strength beginning to dimish into fall mode…
water smooth as glass in some places.

This would have been an awesome shot with my Canon…
you probably can’t see much of the cormorants on the log.
The iPhone was my  photo companion today.

Amazing how warm the water was…
and how clean it looked…. that was encouraging.
Much of the river was just two feet or so deep….
with much algae and vegetation illuminated by the sun.

…..like glass……

before heading back we sat for a bit
and admired this house perched on a crest…
no other houses around it.
I crept in close to get a better look and
saw that it was empty with a real estate sign at gate entrance.
Hmmm…….

Looks lovely, doesn’t it?  and the view is a magnificent cove
with just one other house across the way.  No neighbors, complete privacy.

When I got home I quickly googled it…
*you gotta be kidding*
I knew the price would be up there, because it’s right on the river…
but it’s in an area where homes are known for their decent prices
and this one was clearly UP THE RIVER AND WAY OUT IN THE WOODS.
Just 2 bedrooms.
Kinda cold interior, in my honest opinion.
$3.7  million as of last fall.
Maybe why it’s still empty.
Just sayin.

I think the Mr. is getting the hang of this kayak nonsense.
I believe this is the fifth time I’ve gotten him out there.
Pretty soon he’ll be sprouting fins  πŸ™‚

  1. πŸ™‚ nice leisurely. I was floating right along with you. I agree, the house isn't warm enough.

    Donna.

  2. I LOVE water clear enough to see what's in it! This looks like a beautiful place to be, too bad I'll never have a few mil to live like that. My shanty is paid for, so I'm stuck with it.

  3. It was a spectacular day today! Love the stillness of the river…morning meditation I say! Huh, I guess you truly have found your kayaking buddy!!! Maybe one of these days you'll get me out there… πŸ™‚

  4. Beautiful beautiful. What a great paddle that had to be. And that house, a bit pricy I would say.

    That water was so clear…..

  5. Totally peaceful…these are the things we should be doing on our final summer days.

For an asking price such as that, you would think it would be staged a wee bit nicer…way too 'cool' for me. Location-amazing!

You have no idea how I love that truck. LOVE that truck!

  6. Beautiful! It's funny, your view of the house from the water made the house seem idyllic, but the view inside the house made it seem cold and impersonal. Amazing that our surroundings can make us feel a certain way. Our house is woodsy, inside and out… our cup of tea. I look out and enjoy the view, I come in and enjoy the house. You saw a lot more than just the house on the hill, Karen!

  7. You must be doing something right; getting the man out there again! πŸ™‚

    Beautiful photo's, all.

Yeah, the house? Kind of pricey for two bedrooms. DUH!!! Pretty photo though.

    Have a great day!

    xoxo

  8. We have a friend who is a caretaker for a "mansion" on one of the lakes nearby… we saw an old tear-down cabin close by and wondered what an old-seemingly abandoned and small cabin might go for? Ahem- 500,000… and yes, its still sitting empty πŸ™‚

I feel like I just paddled down the river with you- love it!

  9. LOVELY LAKE, LOVELYWATER, LOVELY CLEAR WATER, LOVELY RELAXING DAY. BEAUTIFUL HOME GREAT BB'S. ALSO WOULD LOVE A LOG CABIN ON THAT LAKE BUT IF SOMEONE GAVE ME THE HOUSE AND PAID LIFELONG TAXES I COULD HANDLE IT BUT I COULDN'T AFFORD THE PLACE.

    JUST A PAST N.Y. GRANNY
