Only in winter…

…can we dog people bring our canine companions down to walk the beaches.
The winter has been so mild, I’m taking advantage of every good walking day…

“It is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears.

We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea–whether it is to sail or to watch it–we are going back from whence we came.”

– John F. Kennedy

  1. Ah, what a blessing it must be to live near that big expanse of blue. So many folks where I live have NEVER seen the ocean…and it's been so many years since I have, too.

I love your first photo of the big pooch!

  2. That quote is awesome! I may have to print it out and frame it for our new house in Minnesota. We should have been at the beach all winter long this year, but just have gotten busy. I told Jemma we were going to go at least once a week until the big move! Glad you got to spend time there with your four legger!

  3. So peaceful! I wish I lived near the ocean. I don't live near the ocean or the mountains for that matter. Only prairie as far as you can see.

  4. I am at the hem of the ocean tonight. We got here after dark so I am waiting for dawn's light to see it. I think I have sea water in my veins because the ocean keeps calling me home. xo Diana

  5. I am missing the ocean something awful right now!!! Ben looks quite at home in the back of that Jeep! hahaha "Does this Jeep make my butt look big??" That Kennedy guy was a smart character! We often saw him while on my Uncle's boat…spent all my summers at the Cape!

  6. Yikes! That is a romantic quote from JFK, but totally incorrect! Blood is 0.9% salt, the fluid used to replace it in the health care biz is called Normal Saline. Seawater is about 3.5% salt, give or take a little, more than three times as salty. That would not be "compatible with life" to be polite!

  7. I've never seen the ocean in person, and prolly never will — so I am enjoying your photos so much, Karen. Looks like you and Ben had a wonderful walk. 🙂
