He might quit his day job…

Mike has branched out into another business while he has watched the housing market slow to a crawl. So far, it’s going really well and the company has grown ten-fold in the past year alone.  A few years back he became a partner in Roba Dolce, America’s Most Italian Gelato.. A Rhode Island based family run company created by Mathew Olerio. This gelato is awesome..the  sorbettos are to die for too…AND.. they’ve just won a contract to sell their gelato exclusively at Patriots Stadium!

A frequently asked question: What’s the difference between gelato and ice cream?
Gelato is just the Italian word for ice cream, right?

Answer:  If you’ve ever visited Italy, you probably experienced creamy, delicious gelato. Many assume that the only reason it seems richer than American ice cream back home is because you are eating it right smack in the middle of the old country, not on your couch in front of the TV.

Ice cream legally has a minimum of 10 percent fat, whereas gelato is made with a greater proportion of whole milk to cream, so it contains much less fat.  While ice cream is usually served frozen, gelato is stored and served at a slightly warmer temperature, not quite completely frozen and the flavor is more intense.

What I get out of that is… NOT AS FATTENING AS ICE CREAM!!!!.. and it tastes better.

 This is their new packaging…

This is the new mini cup…

  1. I absolutely LOVE gelato!!! And we just happen to have a Hannaford about a half hour from the cottage…so I will have to get my hands on some of that stuff!!! Will let you know!! Good for your husband!!! Congrats on the contract!!

  2. How "cool" is that… and one more reason we should have a Costco in our town. I heart Costco and miss it terribly, we now have to drive 4 hours to the nearest one. The gelato looks divine, which is your favorite flavor?

  3. Aaaah – this is why I let my ice cream melt for a bit before I scoop it out. I've even been known to throw it into the microwave for a few seconds.

Sugar makes us fat as well, not just the fat. Is the sugar content less than ice cream?

Last question – what about temp? How do we savages eat it at the right temp? Microwave?

I'm excited to try it! I'm buy both a Costco and Dollar General. Oh! And Aldi's.

  4. Oh I can't wait for the gelato to be sold in stores here…it looks divine! Love the packaging! Congratulations on the contract!

  5. I wish you all the best! I'am a gelato lover. Hmm, Do you think they sell it on the west coast? Oh, how I miss Market Basket. Sigh.

  6. yum….
we eat gelato often….it's at our favorite little place to eat dinner and well, of course, we always need dessert !

  7. Yum-O! I will be searching for this in our little mountain town!
If need be it will be a great excuse to go into the Big City and hit Kroger! (maybe Target 🙂

Keep us posted! How exciting for you both!!!!
    xo, misha

  8. Mr O and your husband would get along well…he is in the building business (an architect) and gelato is his favorite food…and yes he knows the difference between it and ice cream!

It is interesting to learn that Stop and Shop's Simple Enjoy is made by Roba Dolce and that it's a RI company…seeing how I buy some every week I can now say that I am buy local! I'm just angry that my local store has cut down on the number of flavors to choose from:(

My favorite flavor of gelato when in Italy was Baci…hazelnut and chocolate…just so you let your hubby know to pass that on:)…

  9. How 'cool' is that? Congrats to your husband for being part of such a successful venture.
Now… when are they going to export the stuff to the Netherlands?
    The packaging looks very tempting.
    😉

  10. How cool is that! I hope Mike has fun, makes lots of money and that the housing market looks up soon. I'm in one of those upside down mortgages. ACK!!
