Lucky

When I was young and daydreamed of keeping a pony in our tiny side yard ( our house backed up to a dead-end street-no backyard), I had a horse shoe.  It was given to me by my dads good friend who had a farm upstate.  That shoe was cherished. It was a touchstone…something a real horse had worn, something tangible I could hold in my hand, even in the shadow of the city. It was a bridge to a hopeful future filled with horses.

Turns out there have been more than a few horses in that future, and I’ve got a great little quarter horse sidekick now to plod along  autumn trails and dusty roads. To have been able to fulfill this dream, I consider myself lucky.

And I still love horse shoes.  I’ve got an idea for a piece of artwork… and this is just the beginning.

  1. I have to confess, I've never seen these before and they look so unique. I'd snatch one up in a hurry. How very cool. Where are you going to display them? My hubby just brought home a horseshoe from his family's farm… its very old and worn, but the property is abandoned and its just a matter of time till someone takes it. Now you have given me an idea 🙂

  2. I love these horseshoes! They are good luck you know!
I was a horse crazy girl who never got one of her own. "C" has had plenty of horses and now my oldest daughter has about 7 so I can vicariously enjoy hers. I have been eyeing this Arabian down the road. Hubby would be opposed – just like my dad was when I was growing up, but who knows…

  3. Who would have ever thought to bedazzle horseshoes?!? I think they are absolutely beautiful! What a smart girl you are! I had a pony and a quarter horse growing up and was a barrel racer for a while. I love horses, but haven't been on one in years! I can't wait to see what you do with these shoes!

  4. Coming from someone who would BLING absolutely anything…this is such a GREAT idea!!! LOVE it!!! Now…where are you going to display it???

  5. I did have a horse for years when I was a kid and until I found out how fun boys were, that horse was it for me. I wish I had one of her shoes. I also think they're good luck. I love your bedazzling idea and if you sell those someday, keep me posted. Your blog looks more beautiful than ever by the way. It looks like autumn all over. I love it!

  6. Adorable!!! You're so creative, and I'm glad some of your dreams have come true with more in the future to come. 🙂
