Instead of all the unpacking, I can now pay more attention to the details inside the house. The dogs run from the mudroom through the kitchen many times a day, and the wear and tear on the wood floors is enough to send Mike into cardiac. So.. I’ve been looking for a runner that would protect that particular area, and until now I found the size only in magazines special order for about $400. Two days ago I found this runner for $70. in Ocean State Job Lot. I don’t know that I’m crazy about it, but it will protect the floors for now.
Remember those 100 year old Cast Iron plants on the front porch?
They’ve come inside for the winterand are holding their own…
We finally found antique fire irons for the three main fireplaces …
I love them – it’s cool to think of how many hands used these tools
to stoke fires during these cold New England months…
Up on the wall in the family room Mike and Jeff installed a large wheat cradle
(thank you Blacksmith of Ossage Bluff for the correction)

And on the opposite wall an old saw…
These are in the mancave on the mantle… does anyone know exactly what they are?
They were being disgarded as junk.
You have a beautiful home. I love the rustic stone and wood, such great character. The old farm tools are perfect art! I found my way here from Kim's Savvy Southern Syle.
WOwee!!! What an amazing place to call home. I came here from Kim's blog. So glad I did!
xoxo,
Kim
Oh my word, your home is stunning. Love all the beams and the wood. I like the runner, it is fabulous. I can't wait to see more. It is just gorgeous. Hugs, Marty
Wow your home is GORGEOUS!! I love that new runner It's so pretty. I love the plants inside. Great job!

The blacksmith said that isn't a hay rack, it's wheat cradle.
Love your house. You have the aged wood, ours is the newer looking oak.
Your rug was an awesome buy. I've never heard of those stores, but I googled it!
RAKE, not rack
Kim said to come by and see your house… so now what time is tea? I love your house.. old farm houses are my passion. I had one in Illinois, three floors and so much stair climbing but it was heaven.. so now I'm in Florida with a little townhouse and am working on it to recreate
the old look… You did a wonderful job bringing it back to life…
Thought about my sister and what she said about having 'people's photos in the bathroom' (I do also).. she said it was an insult to the people..(?).. don't know where she got that from? You have kept the integrity of the entire house.
I'm a new follower and will be back if you will have me…
thanks for sharing your beautiful house.. and someone needs to run through the snow in front..lol

Oh Karen, I'm drooling. What a beautiful home. I think for the money you can't beat the runner and it looks like it belongs there.
Karen, you really should submit your photos to Good Housekeeping or one of those Country magazines — it's just beautiful.
Gorgeous picture-perfect home! I do like the runner, it seems to fit right in…and the fireplace tools are awesome!
Your home is so peaceful and lovely, Karen! Your artistry is evident everywhere! xo Cait
Can I please just take a vacation to your home?
Karen, I can't believe you got a runner that long that cheap. Works fine there. Love the antique farm equipment on the walls. Goes perfect with your house. I just love your family room. That old fireplace stuff is gorgeous!!
I am captivated and in love with "this old house". I will anxiously await more posts!!!
You have my house! I always wanted a house with a long open kitchen and a wall of glass looking into it, and the living room area…I Love it!
Winter!! Oh the worst part is the tracking in and out…I use sand in the winter, not salt because it hurts the plants, and the end of our kitchen and front door area have to be vacuumed I can't tell you how many times because of the sand.. I have runners but the area is not a long as your…..
Again..Beautiful…I Love the farm tools on the walls…
Oh heavens, that's not junk! I love your house. I buy outdoor rugs for my house, because of the pets. They're cheaper. Usually buy them online from Ballards.

Hi Karen,
I am coming over to visit from Kim's blog. She has me all excited to see more of your beautiful home. I love the way you have used the farm implements on the walls. I'm going snooping around to see more.
hugs
Sissie
Karen- It is just perfect…and suits you perfectly. I love all that you have done and your style is wonderful…pleasing and pleasant without being overdone. It combines both masculine and feminine elements and they work together well. Love it- I am so glad that I found you and have been watching as you have progressed. Hugs-Diana
Your house is gorgeous Karen! And I just love Job Lot:) The runner looks wonderful in the photos!
Have I told you already that I LOVE your house?
😉
If your dogs are anything like mine, that runner must be taped to the floor. I have mats under my carpets that should prevent them from sliding all over the place. They are not up to the Biggles-power. I need heavy-duty double sided tape. But that would leave marks on the floor, so…
Karen, look how well you have settled in … in such a relatively short time. The place is perfect! (I covet your built-ins every time you show them.) Runners are necessary with dogs. Perhaps you'll find two antiques to take the place of your one long modern one? This one will do until you find something you love, and it makes your husband happy.
Those containers look like they may have been for beer. Or am I projecting? hehehe
Lovely! So lovely.
I love the runner, Karen. It seems to blend right in, to me. Always love the photo's of you most awesome, beautiful home. 🙂
I too placed a runner rug in our back entryway where the dogs come barreling through the doggie door a bazillion times a day. It's saved the wood floor, but I do think that after 3 years that the rug has seen it's better days. Time for a shiny new one I think.
Your house is perfection!
What an awesome house..love how you have it decorated.
My daughter needs a long runner such as the one you found….
