Random Thoughts on a Wednesday morning

I’m full of them today… are you ready?

I’d really love a magnolia tree to plant in the yard as a mothers day gift.  Do you think the family will read my post?

Do you know, the least likely people to read your posts if you blog, will be your family?  My mom is a writer, a reader, a supportive mother, and a computer user.  Other people in town tell her the latest recipes and stories and pictures of family I’ve posted on the blog.  My husband walks into the local breakfast place and a favorite resident of mine will tease him about the latest silliness. And yes, silliness lives here.   That same favorite resident friend also knows more about my family than an Uncle whose family I lived with for four years when I was young.  Perhaps it’s redundant… after all, they already know you, right

I’m maybe a little bit horrified that the jury in the Jodi Ar*as trial is still deliberating.  Really?  Do they really need three days (so far!)  to figure this one out?  It’s kinda cut and dried information they were given, no?  Actually… stabbed!..27 times, slashed throat, then bullet to the head…and left to ferment in a shower stall naked for five days…  that kind of cut and dried.  If they come back with anything like a hung jury, a mistrial, an aquital… our system is shot and millions of dollars have just been wasted on this waste of a human being.  She’s selling T-shirts and artwork and tweeting online… that’s disgusting, after what she’s done.  How is this allowed?

this is her MUG SHOT… seriously?

Amazing and also horrifying, the story of three woman and a child held captive and God knows what else for 10 years, all living within two miles of where they were abducted.  By three brothers.  That means three brothers all agreed that this was an acceptable thing to do to these women and the child.  And they did it for ten years.  TEN… YEARS…. of those young lives, spent locked in a basement and God knows what else.    Long road to recovery for them, so glad they made it out alive.

I just noticed I’m starting to sound like Nancy Grace 🙂

The Monsanto Protection Act – Anonymously added to a recent budget bill, the controversial rider would protect U.S. biotech companies from litigation if their GMO seeds turn out to be dangerous. GMO means Genetically Modified Organisms.  GMOs are created by Monsanto and other biotech firms. While there’s no hard evidence that GMOs can harm humans, some worry about undiscovered health risks and the possibility of manmade genes spreading to wild plants, potentially wreaking ecological havoc.

That’s bull.  If you’re gonna mess with the food supply, you better take responsibility and be held accountable.  Producing GMO’s is a huge money maker… that shouldn’t have anything to do with jeapardizing your health, and yet it always does.

Here’s a link if you’re interested in reading about the bill on the table to label our foods GMO if they contain genetically modified ingredients.  It also explains why some are opposed.  MONEY has everything to do with it, not your health.

I want my food labeled, I don’t think that’s too much to ask.  At the very least, I should be able to make my own decision on whether I want my family to ingest GMOs.  It is believed by many that so many people are now having trouble ingesting wheat (you are probably aware of the Gluten-Free issue.. not only for celiacs but others who are finding they feel a heck of a lot better when they don’t ingest things that contain Gluten).  WHEAT… (gluten) is a big GMO crop. Modified to be more disease resistant and grow faster, heartier.  Perhaps that is why the wheat of years ago, before GMO, was a main stable and not the serious allergen that it appears to be today.

It’s gonna rain today, I’m doing a happy dance.  I can’t tell you how very dry everything is here at This Old House.  Bring it!

After the horses and chickens are fed and let out and barn is mucked and gardens are watered and laundry is switched and folded and put away and the dishes that piled up in the sink after this morning’s breakfast are cleaned and stacked,  I’ll be working on my found treasure – that old dollhouse I told you about.  Why do I feel guilty about that, I ask you?

It’s a new day, all – make it a good one!

  1. Good luck on the beautiful tree for your mother's Day gift. My 35 year old son gave me my gift last night. . . . he became my friend on Facebook. This morning I wake up and all "his" friends are telling me to block him ASAP!

    God I love that boy!

Happy Mother's Day regardless. WE won't be home for Mother's Day, we are headed for two weeks to John c. Campbell Folk School, Google that!

  2. The girls know I have a blog, but wouldn't be able to find it (I don't think). But, then again I've noticed blogger printing out my full name. What's up with that? I need to change that.

That mug shot gives me the creeps; like a smiling true mentally ill person. Which, of course she is.

I have a feeling you'll get the magnolia tree! 🙂

  3. I told a few family members about my blog but have a feeling only 2 actually read it. I think if something is important to someone you love and they take the time to let you know about it, the least you can do is make it your top priority. jk 😉
As for the women that were found, I am so happy and can't imagine what they have gone through but they have to be pretty strong ladies! Hits a little close to home since I was almost kidnapped when I was about 12, and my daughter was almost taken when she was exactly the same age. My dad popping out at just the right time saved me and my husband happening to head outside at just the right time saved my daughter. The guy who almost took me when on and tried to take a brother and sister the same night and was caught and arrested. The guy in my daughters case was her friends dad and disappeared the next day and we never saw him again before moving soon after.

  4. You are singing my song woman (about GMO and other such horrible nonsense).

I am a big believer that it's always about money and not about our health. Apparently we love apples the size of a baby's head and the flavor of dust. I am constantly seeking out better resources for my health – what I eat is just the beginning.

My niece and her husband live in Germany part of the year (he plays professional hockey for a German team) and she tells me all the time how "horrible" the produce is in Germany. Small apples that have blemishes, beans she has to pick through for "perfect" ones. And she complains how there are no convenience, packaged foods available in the small markets.

What?? That all sounds lovely to me! I bet that small apple tastes like heaven! Oooooo it makes me so sad.

aaaaaah, I could rant on and on. Love that you are watching those rats as well!

  5. Magnolia trees are the best looking trees there is BUT there high maintance sheds something year around !!! The flowers are gorgeous and the leaves are incredible in color !
Don't give up on that doll house you will love it em it's done !

  6. i cant believe those women were there for 10 years and went unnoticed. so thankful they were found alive and healthy. wish them and their families patience and strength to heal.

  7. I don't dare watch much news..it puts me in a terrible mood. But I keep up and I pray! I hope you've found time to do some 'house' work! I know you'll have fun with it!

  8. I never wanted to give my family (except hubby and kids) my blog info. Not sure why, it's sort of my "Me" thing. I had sketch books when I was young and never let anyone look at them.

I have missed keeping up with the trial. Unbelievable. She is schizophrenic and needs to be put away…forever.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened to these young girls. But again, I'm not liking the media coverage that milks the families of all of their emotions just for our "viewing pleasure". Just the facts. please.

    XO,
    Jane

  9. I started blogging for my daughters. They read my blog and my Mom – but that's it that I know of. When I take a trip, I'll try to blog every day and I know that family and friends do read it then – but not usual.
Those three girls — what is worst is that neighbors had been calling the police about happenings at the house and they wouldn't follow up or check it out!! Sad world at times.

  10. I was shocked and blown away at the C@$ey @nthony verdict. I haven't allowed myself to get that involved with this one, afraid I'll be disappointed, again. *sigh

I'm waiting to see how many babies will be dug up in the backyard on the other one. Those poor girls and that child. I shudder to imagine what they've been through.

  11. Magnolia trees make me happy! I hope you get one!! I don't keep up with the news. It is shameful of me but I just don't! I have Tom for that!!

  12. Oh Karen, you've hit the proverbial nail on the head in so many ways! Our world is a disgrace. Period. One thing I'm sure of is that it's only going to get worse. Sad, but true. The Bible tells us to look up and focus on higher things, because bad things will continue to happen in this world. Satan is the ruler of this world, and there's so much proof of that. What we can do is pray, and make good decisions for ourselves and for those we can have an effect on. Good will prevail in the end. It is written. Hope you get that Magnolia tree and enjoy it's beauty for years to come!

  13. i loved your randomess….a lot !!

and dang, my family totally reads, critiques and edit my blog and if i go too long without posting, my mom calls to see if i'm alright…LOL

  14. Yup…our food supply is mess and I want to know what I'm eating and what I am feeding my family! And my blog? One sister out of 8 sibs reads it…which reminds me I haven't been blogging lately and have much to report! 🙂

  15. do magnolia trees thrive that close to the arctic circle? She was found guilty of 1st degree murder. And I'm working on a piece of in depth works of the Monsanto Corp
