Show time

For a brief while years back my daughter and I ventured into the world of showing quarter horses.   While we met some wonderful people along the way and truly learned how to ride a horse with all those gazillion lessons, we weren’t really cut out for the upper levels of competition. Neither of us had the drive to do what you have to do to get there, it takes an awful lot of dedication, a competitive edge and money. Money helps. The more the better.

And so, the horses came home to be our pleasure horses. Trailriding, ring riding to tune up sometimes, and sometimes not., that’s their job nowadays.   They are awesome lawn ornaments too.

Today I went to the kind of horse show I really enjoy – A schooling show at Whitney Ridge Stables in Higganum, CT where my niece boards her horse, Dude.  The kids raised money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital in order to participate in the show.  All proceeds are donated to the hospital.  There are ribbons and trophies for everyone, and smiles abound.  Congrats to Whitney Ridge for putting on such a nice event for their kids and horses.

  1. Thank you for this!
As someone who worked in the professional horse business, an event like this makes my heart happy 🙂
Yep, it takes a lot of money to keep moving up that horsey ladder. And too often the people involved forget it is about living breathing creatures. When I finally made the decision to walk away from a good, well-paying career a few years ago, I never looked back.

Please thank your neice for me. This is what it should be all about 🙂
And lawn ornaments are the best!!

  2. You know what? I've been on a horse one time in my life. I was a teenager. I got off and it stepped on my toe and wouldn't get off. Thought I would die!
    Haven't been on one since.

  3. What lovely pictures … beautiful horses and girls! Oh to be a young girl again and ride horses this way … instead of my bareback ways on the farm as a kid. 🙂

  4. Some great shots there. Love the award winning bum 😉 And the first shot. I bet the girl would love to have that one on her wall. Gorgeous.

And I do really like your new profile photo! Glasses make one look so intelligent and sophisticated, don't you think 😉
