a Me-Me – for you too.

Weather Outside:  Foggy, misty, rainy morning. Mud everywhere and then some.

Breakfast:  Gluten free homemade waffles with gingerbread syrup.
(Stonewall Kitchen brand… WOW, seriously good)

Pondering:  Should I have let the chickens out to wander for a while? or are they gonna get lost in the mist.

Also, why is Britney Spears still on the radar?  I feel sorry for her, I do.  Xfactor dumped her, and so did her newest fiance.  She doesn’t have what it takes to survive with sanity the world of entertainment, why can’t they just leave her alone to live a simple life and raise her boys in a healthy way.  Probably because she doesn’t want that either.  I find it very disturbing, the public crash and burn of some celebrities. They can’t seem to get out of their own way to save themselves.  And the vultures waiting to document it.

ReadingJanuary First – almost unbelievable and courageous true story of the Schofield family. Google Jani Schofield if you’re interested. I guarantee, you’ll never look at your own life the same again without a heck of a lot of appreciation.  Warning – it is disturbing and heartwrenching.

Current Crush:   Justin Timberlake and Phillip Phillips.  Yes I know they are way way way too young for me.  I can still appreciate that they are charming and adorable and down to earth despite their star status.  Hey, I had crushes on Paul Newman and Robert Redford and they were WAY older than me.

Ok… your turn, in the comments section.

As it ever shall be…..

My kids find it humorous and most definitely annoying that I worry over their safety.
“Mom!! I’m 23!!!”… says she.
“Mom!! I’m almost 17!”…. says he.
As if that information nulifies any concerns I might have about their wellbeing.
I don’t sleep until my new driver son is home for the night.
Is that really so crazy? Thankfully, he’s mindful of his curfew and his worried mother.
I envy those who can fall asleep without a care while their kids are out and about.
My husband is one of those people.
Maybe that’s because he knows I’ll carry that burden for him.
I want a text after arrival if my daughter is driving in bad weather conditions to a destination
she is unfamiliar with.  Call me nuts, after all she is an adult.
 But… it’s a courtesy I  will continue to request.
When my son leaves for school in the morning,
more often than not he hears.. “Seat belt! ..and don’t be in a hurry”.
There used to be the eye roll and  snotty verbal complaint.. MOM, I KNOW!!!
Lately.. he gives me a smarmy smile
and with a measure of cheer, says “Oh, OK!”.
And it’s really going to have to be.
Because it doesn’t matter how old they get, I will always be their mother.
The years don’t erase the care and concern created by
birthing and raising our children.
I’ve explained this to them, and they tolerate it for now.
But only when they have children of their own will they fully understand.
A few weeks back, my 72 year old mother said to my 47 year old self…
“I don’t want you driving down there alone”.
I knew what I had to say.
“Oh, OK!”.

Thank you!

I appreciate your feedback regarding your blog preferences… I remember when I first started this blog I was so excited about the music feature.  Well… that gets real old.. visiting a blog and listening to the same music over and over again can turn a person right off.   I removed it as soon as I figured that out.  I’ve also never liked ads right in my face… we get enough of that in the outside world, don’t we?   I’ve been approached by companies who would like me to advertise on this blog, but always say no.  This is a place for me to journal the happenings on this farm and family.  It’s also an opportunity to connect and share with all of you.  And that’s all I’m gonna say about that –

OH.. one more thing.  So many of you leave really nice or hilarious or informative comments and I’d love to respond. However, you’ve got that feature turned off and so I can’t tell you how thoughtful your comment was and how much I appreciate it.  Maybe that’s for a reason, and that’s OK.   But if you are unaware and want replies to comments sent to your e-mail… you need to do this…

I have no idea
how any human on this earth
could ever find it within themselves
to point and shoot at innocent children.
What could possibly drive the mind to such insanity
that that act could ever feel justified or vindicating in any sense of the word.
Such a selfish, selfish act.
And cowardly – to kill himself instead of facing what he so deserved.
Although, paying for his sorry a$$ in the prison system doesn’t hold
much appeal either.
I hope the gates of hell opened wide and sucked him right down
into eternal misery and torture.

I see dead things.

Soooo… we ventured to East Hartford’s CABELAS today.
I’ve heard alot about it over the years…
some people get all giddy, as if they’re going to Disney
when they talk about Cabelas.
Oh, I knew it was a hunting goods store…
but I wasn’t quite prepared.
Now, you know we don’t hunt around here…
The guy and I agree on this one thing emphatically…
How can there be any joy in snuffing out a beautiful wild creature’s life
just for the sport of it.
I’m not talking about those who feed their families
with their game.  I’m not a vegetarian, either.
But there’s a difference.
My husband once shot a squirrel with a beebee gun.
He was 12 or so.  He still remembers how awful he felt
when that squirrel hit the ground with a thud, and he never did it again.
Back to Cabelas.
If you’ve never been…
There’s plenty of shopping in a two floor giant
post and beam log cabiny commercial building.

This was our stash for the day…..

There are plenty of  these below…
and to be honest, I get an ominous feeling when I’m standing
with a crowd of people and they’re all gawking at guns.
And if you ask me, it’s too easy to get them.

There is a beautiful trout stream tunnel…
to help soothe the soul after browsing the arsenal upstairs.

But ,
what stays with me most..
are the dead things.
🙁

Enough Already!!!

Do we really give a flying F*ck about flirtateous e-mails and affairs of  Army Generals, politicans, the high school janitor?   Even President Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson had affairs.   Why has this become such a big deal and why do we think it’s any of our business at all??  These things have been happening for as long as humans exist in one form or another, it’s nothing new.  Modern technology has made it easier to detect, I guess… but SERIOUSLY… can’t we just move on here?  None of their digging has even unearthed any “giving away of spy secrets”….which I can understand would be a concern.  But just listen to the banter!  FLIRTATEOUS E-MAILS… AFFAIR!!   I’m not condoning anyone’s poor marital behavior… I just don’t think this airing of dirty sexual laundry has a place in the public eye, other than to sell alot of newspapers and magazines, boost or destroy someone’s political agenda  and give the news pundits something to yap about.

Everywhere I look,  I see the four faces of the “Patraeus Affairs”. Tell me, do you find justification in this witch hunt or are you just as fed up as I am?   PS… it’s ok if you have a different opinion here, maybe you’ll even shed some light.

Savoring

…. every moment of this beautiful fall color we’re enjoying in New England.  Hurricane Sandy is going to threaten the East Coast at the end of the weekend, and that means what remains of our glorious red and gold leaves will surely and at best be a wet blanket of fragrant leaf confetti on the ground come Monday.

Great things happening here… so many volunteers coming together to make this
a community meeting and learning place for generations to come.
I passed by one early morning this week and the light was just luminous.

As I began morning chores today I witnessed this…
the sun comes up at the front of This Old House and showers
the ridgeline at the back of the property with golden red light…

Nature gives us such a bounty of treasures….
and Nature can taketh away.
Let’s hope Sandy is gentle.
If you’re as disgusted with Ann Coulter as I am,
read this … a beautiful response from an inspirational young man.
One final thought  for today…
Ever notice?…
you get one bad pistachio, and the whole experience is ruined?
Just sayin.

Lord, help me to accept the things I cannot change….

This is what happens when you send a bunch of 16 year olds
in to the Halloween Shop and say “I’ll be right back”
because you’ve got a hanker’n for those Macoun apples at the farm market
down the road… and heck, what kinda trouble can they get into
at the halloween store, right?
*sigh*
This weekend is the BIG TEST, don’t ya know.
The Drivers Test, in case you don’t.
see post title above.
*heavy…… heavy… sigh*
HIM:  Mom, you know, after Friday noon time, I’m gonna be FREE AS A BIRD!
(flapping wings in a ridiculous frenzy)
ME:  *heavy……..HEAVY…. deep and agonizing sigh*    with maybe a whimper
at the back of my throat , catching in the bile that is upchucking from my acid-riddled
anxiety prone stomach  and its contents.

Just sayin.

Did I just make that word up?
Did you watch that ABANDONED program  about the vacant Johnsonville
that I heralded last night?
It wasn’t all the great. They didn’t highlight half of the village’s appeal,
nor did they discuss much of the history of that oddly wonderful vacant village.
If you did see it, the fellow that was haggling over the prices of “stuff”
with the shows host… was the guy who I bumped into when I went
trespassing on the property to take pictures.
He was reluctant, but then allowed a few shots…keeping an eye on my whereabouts.
That school house that was purchased on the show still stands..
so if they really bought it for the reported $5,000., they haven’t taken it yet.
The show was mostly about junk hunting, which  disappointed me.
Frasier wasn’t impressed either.
This is a bouquet I picked from the backyard gardens before the storms the other night.
Even though these flowers are all out there for everyone to see…
ALL SUMMER LONG…
the husband and child  thought they were store bought,
shocked that they came from our own yard.
For a minute I think they didn’t believe it.
Now why would that be shocking?
Every morning I’m up at 5:30 am… the dogs go out,
then the dogs come in to be fed.
The manchild is awoken, much to his chagrin,
and then I head up to the barn and coop  to feed..
while she takes him for a walk..
…in rainboots.
Keeps the ticks off in the tall grass, didn’t ya know.

Warning:  If you’re easily offended, look away now.
Finally, a few words about politics and living in a house divided.
It ain’t easy.
Enough said.
