This Old House had a well right in the courtyard next to the kitchen. Back in the 1800’s that was a good location so that the main water source was close to the residence for cooking, bathing, etc. Because we made the decision to move the house back about 40 feet from the road onto a new foundation, (it used to sit right next to the road) the old well would have been obliterated. So Mike dismantled it and moved it back along with the house. It is now fully functional again…
Here are before and after pictures… this photo shows you how far we’ve come with the house in a year and a half, too….
Hi Karen,
Just popped over from Kim's at Savvy Southern Style. I am looking forward to you restoration journey. It looks, tho as you have done alot, already! We restored a 1917 farmhouse style into a B&B we ran for 6 yrs. It is now for sale and we will be moving back to our Cape style house this summer. Please come and visit when you have time.

Oh my goodness, now that pump reminds me of my grandmother's house, and it was right next to the back door. 🙂
I hope you have a great weekend; it looks like ya'll need to rest!! 🙂
Oh gosh, my grandmother and great grandmother each had a backyard pump. I can remember we always drank from a little tin cup that hung from the pump and the water was sooooo cold!

So great that you saved it AND it works! Bed around pump is looking good. That birdhouse in the header looks like a face.
Amazing what you have accomplished with the house! I love pumps – there was one outside my family's cottage. We have a well, but no pump.
I like the way you pinked up your header.
xo

I love this wonderful old house! And the pump is priceless in my book.

How you gonna git that water into the bath?
I just can't get over the transformation from old to new!! Aren't you just jumping for joy???? This is spectacular!! And it's great that you were able to get the well back in working order again! Very cool!!
