Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas….

…. and for most of us that’s exactly what it will be, a “little” Christmas compared to what we’re used to.  Strange times indeed.  This past month I have taken a step back from newsfeeds and my appalled reactions to so much of it.   I am grateful for this family’s health including our mothers and for the promise of better days ahead.  I hope you are weathering the multitude of storms and are feeling some optimism for the future.

I put Christmas up here in this house before Thanksgiving was done – we needed the cheer so I pulled out all the stops – even the SnowVillage that’s been in big bins in the basement for years came back out.  It’s true we won’t have the bigger family gathering we usually do, but that’s OK – it helps to know we are placing some insurance on having everyone round the table again next year by being cautious this year.  This will be the first Christmas without Dad. (Fuck Covid)  Last year he brought with him a mini drone that he loved – we pushed it around between us and had a good laugh…. I can tell you for certain it will not matter, whatever the issues in a push and tug relationship, once they’re gone, you’ll be reminded of the good, the bad, and you’ll miss them.  Also, no matter what you thought you were doing right while they were around, you’ll find regrets.

From the looks of these gingerbread men you’d think we’d been drinkin –

Sally’s favorite seat in the mancave…

We’ve had some beautiful snow, although it makes barn chores a little more difficult. My goatgirls Bella and Star are not impressed with the white stuff, but have adjusted .. eventually.

SO much joy I get from these two… they talk to us all the time, huddle around our legs, I’m grateful I can hear some of their little goat girl mumbles… mehhh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh.

More snow pics here on the farm….

My daughter’s home next door can be seen in the photo below…

My son’s home is deep in the mist of the picture below.   Happy News to share with you on that front in the next post…

Some laughs to share with you next…. and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, a joyful, peaceful holiday season in whatever the ways you celebrate, and good health and much happiness in the New Year – XO

  1. Your snow pix on the farm take my breath away. They are all Christmas cards in themselves. I’m with you — pulling out the stops this Christmas with as much decorating as I can, even though it’s just the two of us. I like the idea of it being an insurance policy for Christmases yet to come. So true. What is odd is that we are surprisingly OK with that.I can’t say I thought that a month or two ago, but now I am sort of reveling in the quiet of things. This morning I’m looking at the lights in my house as I sit here and read blogs and it feels very nice indeed. We’ve done a lot of baking and yesterday made cookie and bread deliveries to friends and a bit more today. It felt rather fun to stand on the doorstep and sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” with treats in hand!

All that said, the holiday is marred by this wretched Covid. I feel so deeply for those like you who have said a final farewell to someone dearly loved and those dealing with this. I just learned my next door neighbors are both ill — home, but ill. It’s scary as all get out. So, I send extra love and hugs your way and hope you can wrap yourself in the best of memories during a bittersweet holiday.

And by the way — the goat photos? Oh, my! Heart is melting into little happy puddles! Merry, Merry.

    1. Thank you so much, Jeanie! I need to visit my favorite blogs too, later today after some baking for sure. I love what you’ve been doing – those doorstep goodie visits to friends mean the world to them, I’m sure of it. Looking forward to better days ahead for all of us – thank you for stopping by dear friend xo

  2. Merry Christmas, love you holiday leggins, and of course all your critters are at the top of my love it list. your home is looking so festive. Have a wonderful Christmas

  3. Beautiful post Karen, not to mention introducing me to the beautiful son of Andrea Bocelli. I had never heard of or seen him before although I have always loved to listen to Andrea. I still pull up his Easter rendition of “Amazing Grace” outside the Domo in Milan, to , yes, and empty plaza but at the same time to an entire world. “I once was blind but now I see.” Still gives me goosebumps.
The message I have been sending out this year in my cards are the words of the late Congressman John Robert Lewis 1940-2010.
“So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide.” Bless us everyone! mom

  4. The snow is beautiful at your farm. I love those two goats of yours! We plan on doing some cookie decorating tonight, and it will probably look similar haha. Have a merry Christmas! -Jenn

  5. Karen, your homestead is lovely and so inviting. I hope the coming days bring you far more joy than the past. We’re all looking forward to better days ahead when we can all just breathe again. Merry Christmas to you and your whole family.

  6. Merry Christmas to you and all of your family.

It’s snowing here today! We had bare ground right up until a few hours ago.

Your place is so gorgeous. I love seeing it through winter’s eyes.

    xxoo

  7. I love this post, the pictures are beautiful. I was happy to see the goats, such pretty girls.
It will just be the two of us for Christmas but that’s ok. We delivered the kids and grandkids presents last weekend. I’m enjoying not having the stress of cleaning the whole house and cooking for 12 for once. Having said that my daughters in law are always very helpful and they all bring a dish.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy new year.

  8. Your pictures are exquisite. I had the most vivid dream about snow last night. We don’t get snow here–maybe a few flakes that last an hour at most. I grew up in the Midwest and while I miss the pristine whiteness and that hush when snow is falling, I don’t miss the mess. Every nice thing has its downside…
I hope that next year will bring a return to normalcy, in so many ways.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic new year. I look forward to reading your next posts.

    1. I understand that sentiment completely! LOL… those few beautiful flakes are probably enough to give the feel of the peace… and how I enjoy your posts, that incredible countryside, architecture and history you live amongst! Happy, Healthy New Year!
