Lift

Have you been watching the impeachment hearings/trial?  I haven’t.  Can’t believe I just typed that, but it’s true.  I just cannot believe, in this day and age, that apparently for some of us and a particular sector of our government… law no longer applies.   Truth no longer matters.  When witnesses and evidence are banned from a Trial, we’re lost.  Since he is getting away with everything but murder,  I doubt 45 will be held accountable… for anything.  It’s how his whole life has panned out despite his corrupt practices both personally and in business, and it looks as if the same will be true of his presidency.

Onward.  Last week I took a look in the mirror and realized I hadn’t been for a haircut in almost  a year.  I did chop a few inches off about a month ago to “clean up” the split ends but the effect was… choppy.  So my dear stylist Amber fit me in yesterday and gave me a good shaping cut.  I felt lighter walking out of the salon with just that simple lift.  I’ve got more grays now but I don’t think I want to get into the habit of having to be at the salon every three-four weeks to douse my head in toxic chemicals to cover the gray. I might change my mind as more come in, but.. for now.. I think I’m just going to see how it looks as it turns.

My weight loss journey continues – I’m getting good exercise in with light weight training and walk/jogging.  Plus shit shoveling, hay bale throwing, water bucket  lugging, horse blanket swapping. etc. etc. and then some.  What I’m putting in my mouth is still the struggle.  Will power is not my strong suit.  I have indeed lost a few pounds since the last time I blogged about this.  And so… I’ll keep moving forward, hopefully, putting less in my mouth.  We’ve got a family vacation coming up in which I will be in a bathing suit often, and I really… really.. want to feel comfortable in my suit.

Speaking of suit shopping – man, (that should say woman)  if that isn’t the hardest item to shop for.  Mostly because I’m just not happy with how I look in a suit. But also, for a girl of a certain age, the suit needs to be comfortable, hold everything in, not too revealing but not a house dress either.  I did find a suit that’s made well, does the job, and I feel OK in it.  That’s the best I’m gonna get out of that experience, so be it.

LL Bean –  she looks better in this than I do, but close enough.  It’s their halter tankini, which comes in several colors/patterns and won’t break the bank.

As the news out in the world gets uglier, I’ve been turning away from it and looking around and  inward, paying more attention to the relationships I cherish with family and friends, doing some organizing and refreshing here on the farm and at the cottage and in my line of work.  It’s the lift I’ve needed and it feels good.  Having our daughter and Company right next door has been such a blessing, and our son has begun the build of his home just over the hill.  This little farm has become a haven for all of us, and I am so very grateful.

Hoping all is well in your neck o’the woods –

Karen

  1. Hello,

I have turned off/tuned out the impeachment trial. I think the Senate has already said what the outcome will be. The bathing suit is cute. I love the pretty sky shots and the chicken photos. Cherish the family time, the pets and hope for the best. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!

    1. It appears a few of them have found a conscience.. shall we hope for some decency and truth to be allowed to surface?

  2. The news is ugly. I’m going to go all out for upcoming Senate campaigns. If we can’t beat him, we can at least block him. But while I’ve heard some of the most inspiring rhetoric in a long while, I can’t help but think that narrow minded Senators will vote to save their own skins, not our country’s.

Meanwhile, doing my best to find joy in my world while I can because it will get worse before it gets better.

    1. I’m doing the same, Jeanie – and I’ve been sending donations to those who might defeat the idiots like Moscow Mitch.

  3. I paid attention to everything in the run-up. Now just crossing my fingers.
Read Ezra Klein’s piece in the NYT: because of the combination of polarization, urbanization and the U.S. system of electoral college and voting districts, the GOP has become the party of white racists. “By 2040, 70 percent of Americans will live in the 15 largest states. That means 70 percent of America will be represented by only 30 senators, while the other 30 percent of America will be represented by 70 senators. It is not difficult to envision an America where Republicans consistently win the presidency despite rarely winning the popular vote, where they typically control both the House and the Senate despite rarely winning more votes than the Democrats, where their dominance of the Supreme Court is unquestioned and where all this power is used to buttress a system of partisan gerrymandering, pro-corporate campaign finance laws, strict voter identification requirements and anti-union legislation that further weakens Democrats’ electoral performance.”
As for swimsuits, tankinis are great for not requiring gymnastics to pee. I gave up on bikini bottoms, though, in favor of swim shorts. I just don’t need sunburn on that little crescent of butt/thigh. Somehow that bit burns in two minutes of sun while the rest of my legs remain lily white. My shorts are fitted, like the Salt Water Essentials model on LL Bean’s site. I wear them with a bikini top for a bra and then a rash guard with a high neck and long sleeves. I have enough sun damage on my arms and décollètage; I don’t need more. I like to think I look sporty and not matronly (which is the effect of those swim skirts).

    1. Ooh, I might look into your choice of swimwear – I like that look!

Ugh, I think the electoral college purpose has come and gone, truthfully. What you just highlighted is actually frightening. I’m going to look for that article now. Thanks for sharing…..

  4. I did watch a great deal of the Democrats’ case and was so impressed with the 7 who did the presentations, especially Adam Schieff. Wouldn’t he make a great Supreme Court Justice or
President? He even anticipated the Republicans’ defense (read lies) and just destroyed all their arguments. I was proud of being an American for the first time in a long while. Ten more months of Trump….these hearings may be the beginning of the end. Enjoy your respite – we all deserve a rest from the daily craziness.

    1. I have been very impressed by Adam Schiff. And pathetically, the GOP brought all those lies and flagrations up regardless. They oughta be ashamed. It does appear some senators are growing a wee bit of a conscience, though. How can they ever explain away not allowing witnesses in a Trial. Bizarre. And yet I wouldn’t be surprised after the past three years.

  5. I loved it when Schiff showed clips of a few certain senators speaking during the Clinton impeachment. Hmm . . . funny how some things might come back to bite us right where we sit!

  6. I can’t bear to watch or hear that debacle either. I play ostrich and just hide my head in the sand sometimes. Good for you on your weight loss. I gave up on that quest a long time ago and just try to be happy with me as I am. Not always an easy thing to do. Hang in there, spring is coming and I think you’ll feel better.
